The Arizona Republic published an article on Thursday, January 8th of this year entitled 'Arena Perks Stir Criticism in Glendale'.   It is about how officials in the city of Glendale get free tickets to events at the Gila River Arena.  The Arena is a skyrocketing expense for taxpayers (peasants).  The peasants are inexplicably upset about the behavior of their superiors.
As I was reading this story I couldn't help comparing this situation to Elton John's situation when he performed a small series of concerts in the Former Soviet Union in the late 80's.  It seems that Elton's true fans, the peasants who were starving to hear Elton perform live, were lucky if they could squeeze into a few seats left in the nosebleed section.  The seats were left for them by their superiors who arrived in chauffeured limousines and occupied the prime seating.
Granted, the superiors/rulers in the Soviet Union were more heavy handed than the rulers in Glendale, AZ.  But isn't it the same basic idea.  Oh by the way I forgot to mention that the rulers in Glendale had access to a fancy suite for viewing events in the arena.
